Waiting is one of the toughest things to do, and waiting for God’s timing is not naturally easy for us either. We have to learn.

What we usually don’t understand about God’s timing is that while we wait for something, we are going through a process. We are not waiting in vain. There is a reason for the wait, and God knows it.

Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. (Galatians 6:9)

We begin our lives waiting. We wait 9 months to be born. During this period the body is formed. If a baby is born before the whole process is finished, they may survive, but the first days or maybe even months of their life will be tougher than they should be.

Waiting on the Lord is not only about stopping worrying about the future, it is also about trust. It’s knowing that God will take care of our future.

But as for me, I watch in hope for the Lord, I wait for God my Savior; my God will hear me. (Micah 7:7)

When we trust God with our lives, we also need to trust His timing. He knows what we need to go through to be prepared to receive whatever it is that we are waiting for.

We usually don’t see it, so we don’t understand it. Sometimes we get it after the fact, then it all makes sense.

Waiting on the Lord is also about showing that we trust Him.

Sometimes I get impatient when I wait for something and I don’t get a response from God. Then I feel Him telling me, “Don’t you trust me?”.

Of course, I do. But I need to show that I do. And be still.

Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him. (Psalm 37:7)

And there is also another thing about waiting.

We need to trust the Lord and His timing and be still, be in peace. But we can’t just forget about it. We need to be eager to receive what God has for us.

Even though we are waiting in peace, it doesn’t mean that we don’t value what we are waiting for.

So we need to keep praying about it, asking God to prepare us and lead us to what He has planned for us.

Waiting on the Lord is not about anxiety, it is about expectation.

I wait for the Lord, my whole being waits, and in his word I put my hope.
I wait for the Lord more than watchmen wait for the morning, more than watchmen wait for the morning. (Psalm 130:5-6)

And the same way we are eager to receive what God has prepared for us, He is also eager to give it to us:

Yet the Lord longs to be gracious to you; therefore he will rise up to show you compassion.
For the Lord is a God of justice. Blessed are all who wait for him! (Isaiah 30:18)

May the Lord be patient with us while we learn to truly wait on Him.
