A few years ago, when I was in vacation with my sister in Orlando, Florida, I remember listening to the song “Blessed Be Your Name” by Tree63 on the Christian radio quite a few times.
I loved that song, and when it started playing, soon I was singing along (I love to sing along when I drive).
During that vacation, we went a few times to a church near the hotel we stayed in. In one of the services, the worship team sang this song too. I loved it, because it was the first time I was singing it in a church. It felt more special than ever.
When the pastor was about to start the sermon, he first talked about this song. And he asked us if we had ever noticed that this song was actually based on the book of Job.
Believe it or not, it wasn’t until then that I realized it. When he said that, I started playing the lyrics on my head, and yes, he was right, the verses matched Job’s story indeed!
I remembered the words that Job said, right after he learned that everything that he had was destroyed and everyone he loved was dead:
Then Job arose, tore his robe, and shaved his head; and he fell to the ground and worshiped. And he said:
“Naked I came from my mother’s womb,
And naked shall I return there.
The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away;
Blessed be the name of the Lord.”In all this Job did not sin nor charge God with wrong. (Job 1:20-22 NKJV, emphasis added by me)
Then the song took a whole new meaning for me. It wasn’t about being happy and having a good time and praising God for that. It was about telling God that even if I was in the same situation that Job was in, my heart would still say “blessed be the name of the Lord”.
That even if all my worst nightmares would come true, I would still be able to praise Him. What amazing statements those are!
From that moment on, I learned to enjoy this song even more. It is a profound song, and the affirmations I make when I sing them are really serious. But now I make them not because I am just singing along, but because I think God deserves to hear it, and I truly mean them. Blessed be His name, no matter what.
So I’d like to share this song with you now:
Question for you: Is there any song that you would like to share a story about? Feel free to do it!
Music has been very important to me. I shared them on my blog recently. One is “Remind Me” by Dottie Rambo.and the hymn “I’d Rather Have Jesus.” You will understand my heart in those when you read the posts… when you have time. But music really does touch my life… and it’s a blessing to be married to a musician and how we have written music together. That’s been wonderful.
That’s a blessing indeed! Music touches our soul in a special way, and I am grateful that God uses people to write such amazing tunes that talks to us when we need.
