There You are, God!

It was the 1990’s, I was in my early twenties. There I was in a prayer meeting, when a woman said that God was telling me that He would take me to the USA and He would show me something very important there.

My biggest dream was to go to the USA, but I couldn’t afford it back then. You can imagine how excited I was to hear that.

A few years later, in 1997, my manager told me that I was chosen to do a training in the USA. I never saw that coming, and I knew it was God’s doing.

When the trip was confirmed, I decided to submit a message to a couple of christian forums asking if someone in the Austin, TX area could suggest a church that I could go to during my trip. One guy answered and said that he worked at IBM (I hadn’t mentioned that I worked at IBM too), and he and his wife would be glad to take me to their church.

I checked the guy’s name and email address on the employees directory, and they matched. Then we kept contact and he gave me more information about his church, and eventually we made arrangements for me to meet them (he, his wife and two young children) at the airport.

That family was awesome. They picked me up at the airport, took me to their lovely church, and the wife took me sightseeing almost everyday I was there. She would pick me up at the end of the day, after the class was over, and would take me wherever I wanted to go. They were such a blessing to me, I will be forever thankful for them.

Since the first day I arrived, I kept thinking about what that woman in the prayer meeting had said, that God would show me something really important there. So I kept my eyes and ears opened for any signs. I was expecting something big…

On the third day I was there, I had the radio on while I was getting ready to go to the office. When I got out of the shower, I heard the last couple of lines of a song, which said:

I was hoping You would write to me a message in the stars
As if the stars themselves were not enough

The song ended. I froze. It was a message from God. He was saying something to me… But I didn’t quite get it at that moment.

That night, when I met my new friend, I told her the whole story, from the woman’s message to the song I heard that morning. We talked about it for a while and eventually changed the subject.

The next day, she told me that she had prayed about it, and she felt that I was looking for a big revelation, but maybe the message was something simple. Maybe God was just showing me that He loved me. Maybe that was the message: God loves me.

The moment she said that, I felt something indescribable inside of me. That was it! God did all that, He took me to the USA, had me meet that amazing family, gave me the perfect trip just to show me that He loves me. How amazing is that?!?!

The very next morning, I had the radio on, and when I got out of the shower, I heard the very same lines I had heard before, but this time the song was beginning, and I was able to listen to it whole.

I was hoping You would write to me a message in the stars
As if the stars themselves were not enough
And I awaited Your arrival here from some place very far
As if I couldn’t feel Your constant touch
Why did I think that You’d send thunder
To wake me from my slumber
When anytime I open up my eyes
There You are […]

Message received, loud and clear.

Sometimes we want to hear a big revelation, but the most amazing message in the whole universe is very simple: God loves me. God loves you. God loves all of us. Jesus showed us that when He died on the cross for us, and He still shows us that again and again.

He can make someone’s dream come true just to show them that. He did it to me. And not only in this occasion…

In case you are wondering, I eventually found out that the song is called “There You are”, by Carolyn Arends. Every time I listen to this song I remember that perfect trip and God’s message to me.

Question for you: Have you ever waited for a big thunder from God and He amazed you with a gentle breeze?
