A call to action

This week, some shocking news left millions of people all over the world with mixed emotions: Osama Bin Laden was killed.

It triggered discussions throughout the Internet about whether it was something to be celebrated or not. Should we be glad? Should we be sad? Should we celebrate? Should we mourn?

Without a doubt, Bin Laden was an evil man. But the more I think about what he did, the more I think about the darkness he lived in, and how much he needed to see the Light.

I also realized that I’ve never prayed for his salvation. Not even once. I thought about it several times, but I’ve never gotten down on my knees and actually prayed about it.

Some might say that he didn’t deserve to go to heaven.

I believe without any doubt that I don’t deserve to go to heaven, and I won’t get there based on my own achievements. I will get there because I accepted Jesus as my savior, and God forgave all my sins. That’s it. I didn’t do one single thing to deserve it.

“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God — not by works, so that no one can boast.” (Ephesians 2:8,9)

I can’t boast because I’m not good enough. Actually, no one is good enough:

“Why do you call me good?” Jesus answered. “No one is good — except God alone.” (Mark 10:18)

I realized that I wasn’t called to pray for good people. I was called to pray for all people. Even the ones that I think don’t deserve to go to heaven. Because no one does.

In the end, I was sad. Sad for everything that Bin Laden did. For every pain he caused. For every life that was taken due to his actions. Including his own.

He died believing that everything he did would guarantee a reward for him in the after life. Now he knows the truth, but the sad part is that he can’t tell anyone about it. Now, he can’t prevent any more loss of life or any more tragedies from happening.

But we can do something about it. The most powerful thing in the world: we can PRAY.

So I dare you to make a list of all the people that you think don’t deserve to go to heaven, and start praying for them. All those people that you think the world would be better without, all the people that will get celebrations when they’re gone, because people are glad they’re gone.

Our prayers can make a difference, let’s start now!

Question: Who would you add to your list of people that are currently in the deepest darkness, who are hurting other people, and who need desperately to see the light of Jesus?

  1. I like your response, Cris. There’s quite a list that I can make with those qualifications. I really need to spend more time praying for those lost, rather than only those found. Great thoughts, today.

    • Thanks, Tony. I tried to share what God put in my heart, I hope I was able to get the message through.
